The New Marlboro, NJ Dojo Location
Kanzen Goju Ryu has been teaching students since 1974. We’re more than just a Dojo, though. We’re a family.
With that said – our goal is to provide you and your family with a home that can serve as a classroom, or a place to clear your mind, work the body, and the ultimate goal is to teach, develop, and motivate!
Our purpose is to not only provide an educational environment to help learn in but also to have fun, relax, and rejuvenate in ways you could not find in the classroom or the dojo.
How the Pandemic Impacted our Dojo!
On April 22nd, 2020 a news report revealed, that the largest gyms in the world had closed and asked people to avoid non-essential physical interactions, and stay in their homes to work instead!
We quickly adjusted to a fully Zoom structure and for a year we worked from our basements, bedrooms, and even dining rooms and kitchens.
While learning Karate is not as exciting through Zoom as it is in-person, we had fun. Like the time we planned a Zoom fight.
We also had very difficult workouts, like our 2000 punches, 1000 kicks night.
Early I mentioned that Kanzen Goju Ryu is a family and in some ways its truer than others. We managed to have a virtual test from Green to Purple, virtually. The first in the history of our school. We could do this because the student testing also trained with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. This meant that he could do portions of the test which require opponents: Ippons and Kumite.
Eventually when the weather cooperated we got together outdoors in driveways whenever possible.
During this time we where were renting our space from.
At the end of April 2021, we found started at our new space. We worked towards creating a place that felt like home and as of June 1, 2021, we brought new students together with our existing students.
The new Honbu Dojo Location in Marlboro, NJ
The new Honbu Dojo Location is still in Marlboro, NJ, and is down the road from our previous location. The new address is 37 Vanderburg Road. Marlboro, NJ 07746.
